THE D'AMORE FAMILY
“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.” – Anais Nin
THIS IS US
We are the D’Amore family and our purpose for this blog is to share with you a shift from the mundane to the unknown. We have remained tight in our bud, but we are ready to blossom and want to bring our friends, family, and followers along.
Our family consists of myself, Lindsey – yogi, supermom, writer, editor, and peanut butter connoisseur. My husband, Alan – unicorn dad, designer, artist, architect, and RV-reno madman. Madelyn – the two year old lover of bunnies + blueberries and future train engineer. Luca – the 8 month old meatball who sends grocery bills running for the hills, loves his blankie and wants to be just like Maddie when he grows up.
A LITTLE BACKGROUND
Alan and I began our journey together in 2012. I call him my unicorn because he manifested what we have together today. We immediately knew we shared a passion for adventure, travel, and living in small spaces. We began our journey together in DeLand, FL- moved to Orlando, FL – moved to Miami, FL and back again to DeLand. We just couldn’t put our finger on why it was such a struggle to settle down. We felt the pressure and weight of society and the “shoulds” of buying a house. Deep down we both felt a need to rebel against the norm, to believe the universe had been trying to guide us in the direction we had always asked for. Years ago we both had discussed owing an RV and traveling west but we quickly became overwhelmed with the changes we would have to make to our lifestyle and we forewent the perfect opportunity. We allowed fear to creep in. Fast forward and here we stand, on the leading edge of thought.
There is always so much judgement that circulates when couples with children take a leap outside of suburbia. All these whispers are fear driven, insecurity ridden, and shouldn’t be considered. There were many nights when I woke up with a car parked on my chest. So much anxiety filled me because the choices we were making were not in line with our true hopes and dreams. I had had enough. One night I took my husband out to dinner, we sat and tried to think of who we were before the world told us who to be. We decided that we didn’t want a house; we just want to travel and eat avocado toast, listen to nature, and breathe knowing that we are living with the best versions of ourselves. We want to show our children a simpler life. One with less toys, less screen time, less noise, less distraction, more love, more interaction, more gratitude, and by far more true self. We want them to experience boredom. Because out of boredom grows creativity. We want them to appreciate the few toys that they have and learn to live with less possessions. We hope to inspire them in new ways on the road and we know that the memories we make and the people we meet will fill their hearts with a sense of adventure and a never-ending lust for life.
Our goal for this mobile project is to create a life we don’t need a vacation from. We are brave, we are taking risks and we are fully aware that nothing can take the place of experiences. We hope to find families on the road that share our values and seek to inspire others to make the leap to living the life they've imagined. Unlike many other individuals who hit the road with jobs in tow, we are jumping in with nothing in our job sack. We are terrified and excited. We are open to new opportunities that actually line up with our interests. We want to use our skills, passions and college education to together find a union between hard work, beautiful results and valuable time with our children. We dedicate ourselves fully to the work we take on and the opportunities each new experience brings about. We cannot wait to join and collaborate with likeminded people on the road to fulfill our utmost goal of creating a balance in this life.
We want to inspire YOU…
“Remembering that your are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.” –Steve Jobs
Knowing this should fill you with an immediate sense of relief, connect you with source energy and reveal what you truly want out of life. In our blog we will share our hopes, dreams, desires… We will share the good, the bad, and the ugly. We are real and we are here to share our story of life on the open road. So remember...
